Nintendo after the Switch.

#1

Post by VG_Addict » Sat Jul 11, 2020 9:05 am

As we all know, the Switch is a huge success. But what will Nintendo do afterwards? They're about to be way behind in power with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Will they just make a more powerful Switch? Will they make a new console entirely? And if they do, will they have another Wii U-level failure on their hands?

I haven't made a thread about a Switch successor before.

They're definitely going to make attempt something in the vein of a "Switch 2" at some point; I just hope they give it a better name than "Switch 2" or "Wii U" or "New Nintendo 3DS XL".

Nintendo is pretty bad at naming their systems lately.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

it's an interesting place to be in. the success of the switch is pretty much due to nintendo consolidating handhelds and home consoles into one system, as well as doubling down on being an alternative and/or "second console" option instead of trying to directly compete with playstation/xbox/pc.

i would assume the ideal situation is in a few years releasing a new switch that's maybe powerful enough to run less demanding versions of next-gen games (similar to how the current switch can do stuff like witcher 3, doom, outer worlds, mk11, as mixed as some of those ports have been). but it's nintendo so i could totally see them scrapping everything and doing some weird s*** instead.

I have a sneaking suspicion DZ may be referring to the ongoing pandemic that is frequently abbreviated that way.

I'd say they have the "mobile console" market cornered, but with Xbox making Game Pass available on mobile devices in September, now I'm not too sure.

The Witcher 3 got ported to the Switch? They wrong for that. You don't serve a filet mignon on a paper plate.

I don't know what Nintendo is gonna do after the Switch. Probably something just as 'whimsical and different' like they always do. They've hit the broad spectrum of console ideas though. They gave us GameBoy that flipped open and closed like a flip phone, Motion Controlled Video Game Consoles. What more could they do? I'm sure they have think tanks in japan where executives sit in isolation chambers dropping acid trying to figure this very question out.

Maybe a battery pack that charges separately and boosts the amount of hours you can go handheld mode. Maybe joycons that light up different colors. As for the next system they make: maybe it'll be a plug in system akin to an ipad with glass buttons that are part of the screen as well. Reminds me of the end of the opener in Viva la Bam. "What will they do next?" "Whatever the **** we want."

Tell that to CDPR who most likely hired someone to port it to the Switch. :V

by all accounts it's a good port too. obviously not the ideal way to play but for those with a switch and nothing else, or people who love the witcher who want to play the witcher on trips and stuff, it's solid

Yeah I def support Switch ports of AAA games for that reason (as long as they're optimized for the console)

I mean one of the draws OF the Switch (and was intended to be one for the Vita) was that if you were say, playing the system outsdie the home you could play some more current games on it.

Besides didn't people want third party support for Nintendo last gen...? Now that they have some people are like "argh you don't serve filet mignon on a paper plate" or "Why bother playing it on the Switch?" >.>; like wth do you people want...?
