Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
I'm gonna go pick up my copy in a few hours. Torn on whether I want to play as a girl or not since they seem to have way more customization options.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
I might get it through GameFly to try it out, just so I can properly complain about it. For my initial run I'll probably play as a female too, even though I prefer to play as a male in the older games. I really dislike the modern designs, especially for the Pokemon & male characters, but the females aren't too bad I guess.

Hoping to play Sword a little bit tonight. Should be fun avoiding the internet for spoilers the next couple of weeks.

Don't have the cash right now and my roommate cancelled his preorder to see what's up with the game so our buddy is coming over tonight to show it off

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
Five hours in now and loving it. I usually obsess over catching everything in an area before moving on, so having a wild area so soon is very dangerous for me. I've caught 49 Pokemon and only just finished the first gym.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
Just finished the first gym and this game is great. Honestly @Apollo the Just while the jump from Su/Mo to this generation is not as revolutionary as BW to XY, this game really does feel like a significant step into the future of the franchise. I’m liking this so much more than Gen VII.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
I got paid back for something earlier than anticipated so I picked up the game. It's a blast. Hung out with friends all night going through the tutorial and then doing some raids. Unfortunately that was the only local multiplayer thing that seemed to work for us.
Just beat the first gym. Might go back and catch a bunch of Pokemon in the other routes.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
Also, Rookidee having Hone Claws and Power Trip almost immediately is amazing. If you use HC twice, PT is a 100 power attack you have well before the first gym.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
My party so far is Raboot, Drednaw, Corvisquire, Eldegoss, Dottler, and Toxel. Toxel seems weak and crappy, so I picked him up in the hopes that he gets strong and not crappy, because Pokémon. And I love his unique typing.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
Corvisquire, Thwackey, Chewtle, Wooloo, Skwovet, and the Mystery Gift Meowth. Corvisquire and Thwackey are the only ones I'm really using for fights, Wooloo is for catching, and the others are hanging around to fill the Pokedex when they evolve.

Re: Pokemon Sword/Shield
Level 30. Toxtricity is.................something else.
He evolved, and then I immediately ran into Piloswine, which made me very happy. Pilo will probably be my only non-Gen VIII mon this time around, since he's my (2nd) favorite, and Breloom isn't in the game.
So far I'm still not sold on Dottler, Drednaw, and Eldegoss. Raboot, Corvisquire, and Piloswine are all pretty much For-Suresies going with me to the end of the game. I feel like everyone and their grandma is going to be running Corviknight in this Gen, but...how could you not? I dunno, maybe I'll switch him out later.

I didn't know it was possible to dislike Toxtricity.
