INKTOBER: Ink something every day for the month of October!

This is a fun promotion to get people of any and all skill levels to churn out art. Feel free to join in as seriously or casually as you desire!

I missed day 1, but I've been bingeing the Harry Potter books and I love Remus Lupin, so I drew a kid who in no way could recognizably be perceived as him without this context because he has almost no physical description in the books. Being a teenage werewolf must have been **** hard, y'all. Turning back after a night of thrashing about and screaming in an abandoned shack does NOT sound like a good time.

EDIT: I forgot to include the prompt list. It can be found on the event page here: https://inktober.com/rules/

I don't think I'll be able to do this every day, since my comic strip has become my second full-time job, but I'll see what I can do.

Here's a quick birb.

Edited OP because I forgot there are daily prompts for the event that you can just ignore if you so desire. Today is "roasted." I just wanted to draw more tweenage Remus until I figure out how I want to draw him tho:

Image

EDIT - stayed home from work today so I caught up on day 1's prompt, "poisonous". AKA more young Remus Lupin fanart.

I can and will just make this thread "Apollo draws tweenage Remus Lupin fanart for 31 consecutive days" but like y'all are also welcome to join in for whatever days and at whatever skill level you'd like. Today's prompt is "spell."

Val that is the ONLY version of Bowsette I accept, thank you for your service.

Today's prompt was "chicken."

Inktober has been great practice. I like my lineart, but my shading and coloring still needs a lot of work.

EDIT finally found a filter for my phone camera that doesn’t completely butcher the tones of grey, ayy:

Was sick the other day and didn't feel much like drawing, so here's something to make up for it. Spent more than ten minutes on it, for once.

You know the thing dogs do when they’re dreaming and their legs twitch...? I’ve officially gone off the deep end into Gratuitous Headcanon Land.

Image

today’s prompt was “drooling”.

Didn’t have time to shade bc not being sick anymore means I had to go back to work, boo.

EDIT - there is never not time when ur heart is dedicated enough:

Don't think you're bad with markers. I can't even draw an object. My mother is an artist and I couldn't draw a single thing if my life depended on it. I do use manga as coloring books though lol.

Sure you can draw an object. Wanting to draw it well, on the other hand, means practice and trial and error, right? Anyway thanks, but I wasn’t being intentionally self deprecating so much as very aware that shading with physical media is not my strong suit. Which is why we have Photoshop lol

(Manga coloring is super fun, I can relate.)

So decided to just focus on lines today. I solemnly swear that they are up to no good. Today’s prompt is “Star”

I don't care about rules, obviously, so I'm just occasionally doing stuff rather than never doing stuff. I did this on like the 4th day and it's comprised of 60 images so tbh I think I'm covered for a month of drawings at least but I'll keep turning stuff out occasionally. Some of you might've seen this on FB, but it kind of ruined it since it converts to jpg or some **** when you upload there, so enjoy the crisper version:

Looks good, idgaf. If you want a tip about using inks for shading, treat them like they're only supposed to make one color and make it a solid shape. So like how cartoons/anime usually will have like one default shade color and one shadowed color. For more gradual shading, just layer it up so give your darker bits a buffer of a mid-level shade before the bright part hits and don't let the dark part touch the light part directly. So if 0% is dark and 100% is fully bright: 0% to 50% to 100% - You can't go from 0 to 100 without passing through 50 first, so if you want an abrupt transition, make the 50% really slim. For more detail, always break that up at even intervals, like if you only add one more make it 0, 33, 66, 100.

Visual ref for how adding extra shade values should change how much you stagger by:

Image

The above are using the same values I described - black is 0%, white is 100%, the top image has a grey of 50% and the bottom has 33% and 66% - they may appear a little off depending on the screen you use to view them.

IDK if that will help at all but it's basically all you need to know for handling things where you consider the tone of your media to be an single value, like an ink. If you were using brushed inks, you could potentially change the tone by adding water, etc, but you would want to test it on a sheet to see what value it gives you when dry, before putting it to work.

Nah that’s super helpful, and I need to be better about bearing in mind how to intentionally layer the same color to add more depth; but my BIGGEST problem is that I do mostly know that and I shade using one color at a time generally trying to keep those principles in mind, but because there is no ctrl+z on IRL when I accidentally shade something I didn’t want to I panic and try to compensate by just over shading everything else in the vicinity until I’ve ruined it lmao

(I really should draw out the shadow blocks in pencil first and follow them rather than just winging it, at least until I get better at it)

((I’ll try that tonight maybe))

Also I love your **** as always AI
