Karate didn't originate in mainland Japan, but in Okinawa, and wasn't introduced to Japan proper until the early 20th century.

The Swiss airforce had used to have office hours from 8-12 and 1:30-5:00 Monday through Friday. If an incident occurred outside of those hours, they relied on France to deal with it, although the French didn't have the authority to shoot things down. This changed after a hijacker rudely diverted a 2014 Ethiopian Airlines flight to Geneva outside of their hours. They're planning to have 24/365 readiness by 2020, but for now are still only managing 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Welsh, Cornish and Breton are not Gaelic languages. They belong to a closely-related branch of Celtic languages called "Brittonic".

^Hmm. Are they now to be considered P-Celtic or Q-Celtic, or maybe a different thing altogether?

A day late but my upstairs neighbor told me that the former tenant of my apartment used to conduct seances.

Hm.

A majority of the settlers aboard the Mayflower were not, in fact, pilgrims.

James Reavis claimed to have purchased the title of Baron of Arizona from a Mexican prospector, himself a descendant of a conquistador granted the title by Charles III, and tried to get residents and businesses in the state to purchase quit claims from him to live on the land. He had learned archaic Spanish from his mother and discovered a talent for forgery during the Civil War, both of which he used to create a mass of believable period documents supporting the existence of a Don Miguel Nemecio Silva de Peralta de la Córdoba, Knight of the Golden Fleece, and of the grant from the Spanish crown. He even found a random woman in California who looked like a descendant he'd made up and married her after convincing her and others that she was in fact the last American survivor of the Peralta line.

The documents convinced major figures of the time like Roscoe Cockling, a senator, and James Broadhead, founder of the American bar association, who gave him a stipend to travel to Spain and investigate the claim. There he met the real Peralta family and spent several weeks digging through the archives and eventually planting his documents. It was discovered after the fact, but he'd left the country, and friends in Madrid prevented news from getting out.

He used similar strategies in the US to drag the claim out for several years, but was eventually undone by a multi-year investigation by the Arizona surveyor that found, among other problems, the documents were written by a steel nib unlikely to have been used at the time and minor grammatical errors, and was sentence to two years in prison.

If you play the Song of Healing when you enter the poe shop in Ikana you get a discount on the mini game.

I learned a lot during the SGDQ MM hundo run and I don’t regret staying up until like 3am watching it.

The 1943 film Son of Dracula was the first medium to feature a character with the alias "Alucard".

I've always found the 'Alucard' thing kind of silly. It'd be like if Frankenstein's Monster had a kid who hated him named 'Retsnom S. Nietsneknarf'. (*feels a sudden foreboding*) (*goes and searches 'retsnom s nietsneknarf' on google*) (*goose egg*) (*profound relief*)

The French word for flamethrower is lance-flamme ("flame lance"), which sounds way cooler.
