My mom is at the hospital, visiting my aunt. She's not doing too well, and my mom said the prognosis is "not good".

What do I do?

I'm sorry your aunt isn't doing well.

Be available for your mom if she needs somebody to talk to, or to cry to, or even just to hug. If you're religious, pray for your aunt & for your mom. I'll do the same.

Sorry about your aunt. When my grandpa was in the hospital we just visited him until he passed away. Just comfort your mom and that's about all you can do,

Never mind, my mom says my aunt will be fine.

I made this thread too soon.

Doctors just say things as they see them, sometimes they are wrong, but a lot of time they are right. It really depends on the medical condition. Seems like your aunt was lucky this time.

I watched my grandma waste away from cancer and slowly lose her senses. At one point she had yet another emergency, where she had to be rushed to the hospital. They just gave out some stronger drugs and sent her back home. I heard them saying that she was "pretty much already dead" and so there would be no point in doing much more. I actually confronted some people over that, asking them to actually try something, not just write off someone as dead. But, as medical professionals, they just learn to make assessments like that, coldly as possible. My anger at them did not change anything. Years before, she had cancer that just suddenly went away. The doctors could not explain it, since they had been saying back then that it was terminal. It really was bad, but then it was gone. She just got cancer again somewhere else later on, somehow. My great aunt, the doctors said she was fine, right up until she died of cancer within 3 days of knowing she had it. I am not sure of the point I am trying to make. Be careful about fully trusting doctors, I guess.
