TONY HAWK BACK

#1

Post by Calamity Panfan » Tue May 12, 2020 1:50 pm

our long national nightmare is over. pick it up pick it up pick it up pick it up

Cautiously optimistic. The last HD remake of Tony Hawk was Bad, but Robomodo sucked in general. Vicarious Visions has more pedigree, and those Crash remakes were good. But it's gonna be hard trying to recreate perfection.

They should've made it a collection with 1-4 at least. I understand the omission of some, like 5 and Downhill though. Still, Underground 1-2 wouldn't hurt. I'd even be interested in finally trying Wasteland, Project 8, and Proving Grounds out of curiosity but I'm sure that'd be overkill.

There he is, growing older all the time,
Looking older all the time,
Feeling younger in his mind.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Better catch up on what I've missed then.

I'll watch and see if it's any good. I see no reason to not have faith in it.

Vicarious Visions, the guys who did N. Sane Trilogy?

This might not be a dumpster fire.

Vicarious Visions also made the GBA THPS ports, which were way better than isometric portable Tony Hawk ports had any right being.

Also did the Wii ports of the Guitar Hero games as well as the DS "On Tour" games. So yeah, very solid track record at this kind of thing.

I think this is inspiration enough to finally finish my long-working ranking of the songs on the tony hawk soundtracks

It's been announced that they're including most of the original soundtracks. Licensing tracks from bigger bands probably isn't so difficult (even if it might be pricier). The THPS1 tracks from bands like Speedealer and the Ernies might be a bit trickier because they were way more obscure even in 98.

Goldfinger literally just did a quarantine video version of "Superman", so that better be back.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I'd prefer an option to use your own music, I merely tolerated most of what was present. Should be easy today.

Here's some gameplay, showing off the mechanics as well as the remade Warehouse and School levels. Not very exciting without the music, but you can see the physics look much truer to the classic games rather than the wonky physics of the more modern titles (allegedly VV is actually building from the original THPS2 source code).

Oddly, the special trick sound is used very liberally in this build. Probably a placeholder or bug or something.

This better have an option to play as 52 year old Tony Hawk.

Well it's nice that they aren't going for the YouTube Fodder / Pewdie Bait that was that Tony Hawk game awhile ago in terms of physics.

Never played a Tito Falcon Snowboarder game. Just wasn't in my wheelhouse.

...played hell out of 'Skate 2', though. Maybe I'll try this new-ish iteration out. I mean, it's not like I'm doing anything else worth crowing about during the off-hours.

Why doesn't anyone talk about how the games introduced a whole generation of kids to music genres like punk?
