The return of G4?

#1

Post by Calamity Panfan » Fri Jul 24, 2020 1:25 pm

Minutes ago, the following trailer was tweeted out by the G4, X-Play and Attack of the Show Twitter accounts:

So, it looks like G4 is returning in some form next year. There's a lot of references to running jokes from the network in that trailer, but so far no word of official involvement from any former talent or what form this will even take, whether it's a Youtube thing, its own site, a network again, etc.

Still, intriguing!

Edit: It looks like Kevin Pereira is involved in some way and possibly tweeting Olivia Munn coming back aboard?

Also, Adam Sessler quote tweeted the videos saying it's a "curious turn of events." I don't know if he's involved in any way, but he did apparently leave his last company in March, which is curious timing.

Morgan Webb is trending as well & also responded interestingly, though she has not left her current job at Bonfire Studios.
Victor Lucas & Naomi Kyle seem interested. Not sure what they're up to lately.
Geoff Keighley & Jessica Chobot have basically confirmed they're not involved.
Laura Foy & Tina Wood both work for Microsoft now, so they probably can't come back.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yeah Keighley's the one that I figured was least likely to be involved, he's got plenty on his plate already

I'm only interested if we get more episodes of Splinter Cell Co-Op Theater on X-Play.

What I think they're going to have:
* recaps / replays of things like Microsoft's monthly videos, Ubisoft's show, Nintendo directs
* eSports
* X-Play returning with "reviews" based upon maybe the first couple hours of a game peppered with a lot of quotes that sound funny out of context.
* Gameplay commentary similar to what yo ucan find on Twitch and YouTube
* Some documentaries on gaming
* Rerunning some anime and the like

Definitely eSports. Probably AotS. Hopefully Ninja Warrior & X-Play, & maybe Code Monkeys.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Doesn't Ninja Warrior air on NBC or is that a spinoff/different series? I mean I can see them airing reruns on it. Especially since production of TV shows is going to be kinda slow for awhile due to obvious reasons.

I'm kind of thinking they might not be able to license a lot of stuff initially.

^^America is 10 years behind on original-recipe Ninja Warrior, & even the older tournaments have only rarely aired here since G4 folded.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

American Ninja Warrior takes itself completely seriously, which defeats the point. I want to see a handful of real competitors mixed in with a bunch of old men with squids and local newspeople.

Only thing I really ever watched on G4 was 'Code Monkeys'. Weird show. I liked it.

Idk, i think american ninja warrior is useful if you're stuck in a hotel with only 100 channels and nothing else on. That is if impractical jokers and Dave Chappelle aren't on like they always seem to be.

^There's about 50 more episodes of Takeshi's Castle than there currently are of MXC, so it's at least physically possible to make more MXC, just probably not more than 2 seasons' worth.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

...I mean, technically speaking, they could make indefinite more episodes of MXC. Like, they'd just have to run out of jokes. Foreigners to insult. Gals to call 'Fajita Babaganoosh' or some such.

That's a perfect description of American Ninja Warrior, which is something I can be content to watch if I have literally nothing else to do. Japanese Ninja Warrior used to be something I'd turn on for its own sake, and I don't even like TV.
