Why don't new members stay?

I've noticed that most new members on here only post a couple of times before disappearing.

Why don't they stay?

Some of them just lose interest naturally. We've had people register, say hi, & then vanish forever since time immemorial.
Some of them are spammers who get banned right away.
Some of them don't see the 24/7 365 activity that they're accustomed to on other sites & leave because of that.
And part of it is that we veterans have become less active overall as well, as many of us have taken on more offline responsibilities.
